  1. 98 to 99% of Vulcan and 101 use is by cars and trucks. This delusional council somehow thinks their responsibility is to make those streets hunky-dory for the other 1 to 2%

    1. Making it safe for all. It’s a good thing.

    2. Showing gross favoritism to a tiny minority to the huge disadvantage of the giant majority. That's not the way it's supposed to work. The ADA accommodates a small minority without burdening the large majority.

    3. Not true. implimenting complete streets improves the congestion and safety for all including vehicles.

There are a ton of old uneducated curmudgeons that can't get any new and useful information through their thick skull. They are still struggling with the world is not flat, and Jets do not use propellers. And they will die that way. The rest of use will enjoy a nicer Leucadia! Yea!!!!

    5. Only Leucadia, 6:26? Is implementing complete streets an exclusive deal? Wouldn't improving congestion make it worse?

    6. No. Inclusive. The coast streetscape is good for all.

We already know some will never understand. Sigh....

Please try to drive safety, don't run over bicyclists or pedestrians, and take uber if you can not drive well or do not understand the laws.

  3. The 2% now owns this town - get use to it or move!

  4. Its your fault. You let the bleeding heart liberals take over because no one else ran against them except a corrupt pension abuser, older than dirt story teller who thinks he is an Indian, and a inland empire kook.

Get some real candidates to oppose Tony, Kellie, and Catherine next election and lets get this party started. First order of business, hire a competent City Manager.

    1. This bleeding heart liberal agrees with you, 6:31, that the council needs to flip next time.

But not everyone is a knee-jerk partisan, and that applies to both sides. This bleeding heart liberal voted against Hubbard and Blakespear and was willing to take anyone but those two. Issues such as Cardiff's rail trail placement, Streetscape, and "complete streets" are apolitical, with party preferences out the window.

Be careful with the insults to those who did step up - no matter what you think of them, it takes guts - did you? Are you "real candidate" material?

And knock it off with those partisan labels or the party will be dead before it starts. .

    2. How about you, 6:31? Why don't you run for a council slot or take the city manager's job?

  5. Nicely done, 8:13 - nicely done....

    1. The "competent city manager" bit is vintage disgruntled city hall employee. Between stories of Blakespear's hissy fits out of public view and Brust/Wisneski doing the council's bidding, it's no wonder "staff" hate the current regime.

That said, them days of watching General Hospital reruns on the taxpayer's dime is over and 6:31 had better get used to putting in an honest day's work. It will now be required no matter who is in charge.

    2. Try staff hates the current regime because no one really like passive aggressive behavior from a boss that doesn't no shit about effectively running a City.

My plea to the Mayor and City Council, hire a decent City Manager. We would welcome a C level over our current failure. Please!!!! Our City Hall is a disorganized shit show!!! Staff would like to produce but we are constantly told to chase our tail by the City Manager.

    3. My plea to 5:48: ask them why they're directing the city manager to do what she does.

And since when has staff wanted to "produce?" You folks are famous for your Starbucks runs, surf's up "agreements," mountain bike gifts, and empty parking lot well before closing time.

"Brust/Wisneski doing the council's bidding". You do know that's what they are legally required to do?

  7. 6:02 What a weak post.

Try the City Manager is not competent because nothing needed and good for Encinitas ever gets done.

Housing element - Years in the baking and no where close. MIllions of dollars paid out, millions of hours wasted, promises made behind closed doors and all for more distrust in the City Hall leadership.

Quiet Zones- What ? No progress.... right. The whole City should have been a quiet zone 5 years ago. Wasn't this Barth/Gaspars top priority. Geeze. Again no progress.

Coastal Rail Trail - Complete fuck job from City Management and years late.

Cardiff under grounding and Birmingham improvements. Same as Coastal Rail Trail. Complete Failure.

Streetscape - Staff has no idea what they are doing and project gets bounced from new employee to the next new employee. How many project managers has the project had like 20? All with shitty progress.

    Beacons- HAAAAAA! Sad Joke.

El Camino Real Corridor Improvements - Yeah right like staff really has time, or cares.

The list goes on and on. The only reason why Blakespear is holding on to this train wreck is she was also on the selection committee who chose this failure, and she will not admit her mistake. Now the worst City Manager pulls the strings for this Mayor. Sad but true.

I wish I could report some good news from City Hall. Hey - I know, they haven't fucked up the pacific ocean too bad. But then again they plopped a huge eye sore and piece of concrete on our nice and busy moonlight beach and built office space for swat team perving out on beach goers instead of giving traffic tickets for all the speeders through town.

  8. 11:01 - as usual, barking up the wrong tree. The city manager "works at the pleasure" of the council. They love her. Think she's doing a bang-up job.

Just go meet with blakespear, already. She claims not to read the blog, so your repeated pleas to her here are falling on deaf ears.

  9. 8:09- Wow. You must have low reading retention or maybe just not that bright. I know the City Manager works at the pleasure of the Council, and that is my point.

The City Council supports this train wreck and therefore they need to be replaced ASAP. They are bad for Encinitas. Can it be stated more clearly?

The Mayor, the City Council and the City Manager all suck and needed to be replaced. They are all bad for Encinitas. The are supporting development more like Huntington Beach and the homeless more like SF. I do not support them and want change.

  10. Just using your own commentary to respond. You wrote (assuming this is you):

"Try the City Manager is not competent because nothing needed and good for Encinitas ever gets done."

She's perfectly competent, given the direction she receives from the folks who sign her checks.

And we can't fire her, so our only focus should be on influencing or flipping the council. Agree?

And see how I can make my point without insulting your intelligence? Try it sometime.

  11. Using your own commentary , "She's perfectly competent, given the direction she receives from the folks who sign her checks." I have a problem with this statement.

The City Council relies on the City Manager to provide good recommendations.
The City Manager is supposed to provide sound recommendations for the City Council. Our City Manager provides half baked crappy recommendations and the results are shown in the projects listed above, and to the determent of Encinitas. Our City Council doesn't know any better and accepts her crappy recommendations.

Hence the main responsibility does remain with the City Council for accepting the poor recommendations and in-fact praising them.

Once a new City Council is seated, they can hire a competent City Manager and the City's future might not resemble Huntington Beach, or PB.
