Four years ago, an Encinitas man could not stand the look of a vacant lot filled with trash.
In Wednesday’s Zevely Zone, Jeff visited Dave’s Garden where no stone is left unturned.
Dave Dean is open for business and laughs because his Rock Garden is free to whoever wanders by, but first things first – he does not own the property, the state does.
Dave figured that since he lived in the neighborhood he would pull some weeds and put down roots. Now, the garden is beautiful. But that was not always the case.
Things were ugly when city officials hit Dave with a cease and desist order, but the garden was saved by the power of the people. Those city officials now turn a blind eye to the man whose dedication can be seen by all.

It's a magical place and Dave is amazing for doing this.
ReplyDeleteI understand the the city council is looking for homeless shelter sites within the city. Is this site a possible location? I know the city is willing to pay for property access or purchase the property out right. We need to help those less fortunate than us and this might be a good location.
ReplyDeleteRight, the homeless folks should always be housed a short walk from the beach.
DeleteWhy would discriminate? We provide affordable housing for those who can't afford to live next to the beach. What's the difference?
DeleteWas that coastal sage scrub that was removed?
ReplyDeleteWe have the right council in place. Let's provide homeless shelter to those in need, including our new immigrant population. Let's walk the talk! I know the Mayor will support this, let's make this a 5-0 vote.
ReplyDeleteLet's start with her front yard. She'll be backtalking the walk in no time.
DeleteYa genius........let's start moving the homeless into your living room. Why don't you walk the talk and take in bums if you are serious about them.
DeleteAnother phony bleeding heart
I'm the bleeding heart who posted at 6:03. Quit it with the name calling, everyone knows that's for people who have no valid argument to make.
Delete4:24..... what names didn't you like? genius or bleeding heart? Homeless shelters?, immigrants? Take them in?
DeleteWhy don't you put them in your house...feed them, cloth them.....No??
Oh' I see.....you want everyone else to do it.
"Watch out for do gooders.....cuz they'll do you good"
Oh, I see...you have no way to express yourself other than through name calling. If you have a point to make, news flash: you're failing at making yourself understood.
DeleteTry it without the hysteria.
Dave for mayor! He'd be much better than Blakespear.
ReplyDeleteYeah- Homeless camps in Cardiff. Lets call them Camp Blakespear!!
ReplyDeleteI hope we re-consider Lake for affordable housing. They need their share!
ReplyDeleteApparently you don't live on Lake. So in your mind everyone should have their neighborhoods ruined with section 8 housing.
DeleteHow many times do knowledgeable people have to post here that affordable housing IS NOT SECTION 8 housing before you get it?
DeleteI mean, really, how dumb are you?
Besides that show me one example of a Joe Blow who actually benefited from density bonus or "affordable housing" in this town. It's a con job that benefits the donor class and the guv culture.
Delete2:31........you don't know that there isn't going to be more Section 8 housing. It already exists in Encinitas.
DeleteI guess you didn't read the flyer that came from the city stating "low to very low income". I may be dumb but at least I can read.
Section 8 funding for housing dried up when Obama was president. There's no new Section 8 funding. The waiting lists to take the place of recipients who die or earn too much to quality in San Diego County are about 10 years long.
DeleteLow to very low income housing in the Encinitas HEU is not Section 8. If you took a little time to do the research, you could find that out for yourself.

ReplyDeleteIf HCD approves the HEU, we'll see how many affordable units are built to meet the HUD definition and how many of those go to low and very low income households.
We already know and so does the City Council. Zero.
ReplyDeleteYet they keep pushing for the max in density even beyond what is required from the State BS.
Criminal. I would have never guessed the Blakespear and Kranz would turn into paid off developer shills. Sickening.
Blakespear and Kranz should move to Huntington Beach instead of trying to convert Encinitas follow their crappy development plan. Yuck.
Blakespear follows her mentor Shaffer's attitude that they know best how we should live; she said in a recent UT article:
ReplyDelete“My hope is that there is an analytic process that looks at factors beyond the perspective of the residents...."
We who elected her are clearly no longer of use. This will come back to bite her in 2020. Hard. Phony Tony, too.
My hope is that there is an analytic process that looks at factors beyond mayors and council members who are shills for developers.
