Cardiff man dies BASE jumping in UTC

Encinitas Advocate:

Authorities on Tuesday, March 29, released the name of a 48-year-old man who died a week ago when he tried to BASE jump at a high-rise apartment building in University City.

The county Medical Examiner’s Office said Cardiff resident Eric Roden jumped from the 23rd floor of Palisade UTC, a 23-story, upscale apartment building on the corner of Lomard Place and Nobel Drive. The Medical Examiner’s Office said Roden’s parachute likely malfunctioned.

  1. Exactly!

When Randy's atrocity is built, we can have our own death seeking base jumper.

Build them and they will come. Good grief. Gawd spare us.

  3. If anyone in Encinitas is on the fence about Blakespear this should send them over the edge.

Blakespear is acting like she was anointed Queen, not barely re-elected as an incumbent with the backing of The DNC (Developer National Committee) of California.

This woman has no morals or ethics. This move smacks of desperation and desperate people do stupid things. This is one of the most tone deaf political moves I have ever seen. Kranz, who endorsed Blakespear for Senate, is also laying bare exactly who he is. A toady for Blakespear and no friend of Encinitas.

Bruce Ehlers recused himself from voting on the Goodson Project, clearly he is doing everything the way it should be done. Blakespear is friends with developer Grover from the Fox Farms project and even named him traffic Commissioner! Has she ever recused herself from any votes? Nope.
At this point The Queen may be cutting off her own head. An incredibly dumb move politically and an incredibly unethical move personally.

Julie Thunder for District 3, Bruce Ehlers for District 4, Cindy Cremona or Jeff Morris for Mayor. Let’s get the Government of Encinitas back in the hands of it’s citizens.

Matt Gunderson for State Senate. ABB

The comments in this article are spot on. Scroll to the bottom and read. Bravo to all!

  4. Ask Blakespear about the extravagant spending on the SANDAG credit cards. She is acting as though she had nothing to do with it - either she was asleep at the wheel or is trying to wish it goes away. She participated in the benefits, with expensive meals and hotel stays. Whether or not she swiped the card thru the reader, she was complicant. We don't need someone like this in the State Senate. And now she is purging the Planning Committee of a perceived rival - Ehlers. Dirty, desperate politics - purge Blakespear and her stooge, Krantz.

  5. A wise person if running for another office would not try and remove someone like Ehlers from his position, why?, the wise person won't be around long, so, they shouldn't care as "they (blakespear)" should focus on the new position they want.
    But, blakespear isn't wise.
Anyone that believes in raising seas covering the west coast can't be wise...

    1. you are talking about the same person who sued her own citizens so it's safe to say the word wise does not apply.

  7. SANDAGATE - the simmering financial credit card scandal that Blakespear is hoping doesn't explode on her! Id she was unaware of it, she is incompetent. If she benefited from it, she is corrupt. Either way - not fit for office!
