Law enforcement has opened an investigation into a slew of anonymous posts threatening physical and sexual violence against several local women in an online discussion board, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.EU readers are well aware of the recent explosion of abusive comments. We've tried to monitor and moderate, but it's been a herculean task with the time and energy a few people seem to have for posting vitriol.
Both law enforcement and residents have reported parallels between the language used in several anonymous posts on the Blogger forum Encinitas Undercover and public Facebook statements by former Encinitas mayoral candidate Jeff Morris.
Sgt. Heather Bruton of the sheriff’s North Coastal Station confirmed they had received multiple complaints of online harassment related to the anonymous posts and continue to investigate the matter.
EU is in contact with law enforcement and will help identify IP addresses.

Literally hundreds of experienced bicyclists and its own Traffic Safety Commission explained that pitching down the bike lanes to 5 feet in the doorzone and next to guard rail and high speed car lanes is a hazardous condition. DeleteI've been reading the dialogue on Encinitas Uncensored and I feel bad for Willow, because I thinks she misunderstood the headline on the Coast News' article.
ReplyDeleteSeems like Willow read "Sherrif investigating anonymous threats on Enciitas blog" and she thought that the Sherrif 1)started an investigation of Encinitas Undercover and that 2)the Coast News was making Jeff the villain. (That's the impression I get from her comment that everyone is making Jeff the scapegoat; she followed that up with a remark that "that's not what this investigation is about"...Willow, this is not an investigation into this blog. It is an investigation into the allegation that Jeff Morris made certain incendiary statements anonymously here, as well as on his own social media.
He may or may not have commented here. It will be hard to prove. But Natalie has every right to report what she thinks is harassment. And Jeff has every right to defend himself in a court of law. Let the process work it out.
Willow fails to grasp what the investigation is about.
Here is the investigation. I am going to describe this in an unbiased, timeline kind of way. I am being neutral and just want to try to clear up the misconception.
1. Whether right or wrong, Natalie Setoon feels threatened by Jeff Morris.
2. She applied for, and was not granted, a TRO.
3. Feeling vindicated, Jeff comments more and more about Natalie and other women he views as enemies.
4. Natalie files for another TRO and this time, she includes his online comments as evidence. She also includes anonymous comments from EU that she believes are written by Jeff because they contain the same language that he has posted publicly, with the added element of stronger, more threatening language. ( maybe he wrote them, maybe he didn't, but she has a right to report them if she wants and the Sheriff will do their due diligence)
5. Since she has filed this claim, the Sheriff Dept HAS to do their due diligence and investigate. No conspiracy here, they are doing their job.
6. The Coast News reports on the allegation, including the fact that as part of her filing, Natalie alleges Jeff has posted anonymous threatening comments about her. (No conspiracy here either, The Coast News is doing their job. Jeff Morris MADE himself a public figure with his own activism, his candidacy, etc)
Jeff made himself a lightning rod with a lot of his antics in 2020. If he hadn't been so volatile, and if he had not posted so many vile attacks on all his social media, none of this would be happening.
For a mayoral candidate to public call a possible future constituent "Rottencrotch" more than once online for everyone to read, is disgusting, juvenile behavior. He does not get to do that and then cry foul if people criticize him for that. You get out of this world what you put into it. Some people put in goodness and receive goodness in return. Jeff puts in anger, profanity, and toxicity. And then seems surprised when he gets it in return.
Willow, I get where you are coming from. You are young and eager to engage in local issues and I comment that. You seem to be defending Jeff, but what I think you are really aiming to do is point out what you see as a double standard. From your POV, other people post horrible anonymous comments here and they are not being investigated, so you say "hey everyone, stop making Jeff a scapegoat!"
I get it. However, one thing at a time...

DeleteWRONG 6:12pm. Natalie HAS been granted TWO TRO's by two judges. A TRO is granted when a judge believes you are in immediate danger. They usually last a few weeks. Then a judge will hear your case to see if an extended 3 year restraining order is necessary. She was not granted the 3 year restraining order the first time. There was not a judge presiding over that hearing, rather a commissioner. The commissioner at that hearing had previously worked for Jeff's attorney, a conflict of interest for sure. We will see what happens this time.
