9th Circuit rips Lorena Gonzalez on anti-Uber law

 Coast News:

“Corruption.” “Backroom dealing.” “Pure spite.” “Naked favoritism.”

These are the words written by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to describe former Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez’s bad behavior when crafting her anti-independent contractor law AB 5 (Assembly Bill 5), enacted in January 2020.

299 comments:

  1. Surprise, surprise? Not.

Quite a pair she and Nathan made, while it lasted.

Will our own downtown dark night represent her?

Gawd, if only she could take her brother with her as she checks out of public life. Our community's future would be so much better off. Dream on. I will.

  20. In trying to defend Gonzalez’s poorly drafted law during oral arguments on July 13, 2022, the state’s deputy attorney general withered under questioning from the three-judge panel. It was notable, the court wrote, that counsel for the state was “unable to articulate a conceivable rationale for AB 5 that explains the exemptions made by AB 5, as amended.”

  22. From the article- Because of Gonzalez’s blatant “animus not based in reason” directed at the plaintiffs, the Ninth Circuit also concluded that AB 5 plausibly violates the equal protection clause under the 14th Amendment.

    ReplyDelete
  23. From the article: “The court’s brutal indictment of AB 5 hinged on Gonzalez’s “shocking statements,” tweets, and disparaging remarks against Uber, et al. One such statement (cited in the plaintiff’s complaint) was when Gonzalez called Uber’s chief legal officer Tony West (aka Kamala Harris’s brother-in-law) “full of shit” on September 18, 2019 — the same day Gov. Gavin Newsom signed AB 5 into law.”

    ReplyDelete
  24. From the article: “Meanwhile, those of us who have witnessed the ongoing dumpster fire of AB 5 since its inception know that Gonzalez’s animus extended to specific local businesses as well during her crafting of the disastrous AB 5 law, which has put hundreds of thousands of career professionals out of business — from tutors and transcriptionists to performing arts groups, indie filmmakers, and wedding planners.”

    2. It not an “Opinion piece” it’s a “Commentary piece” big difference!

A commentary is a more in-depth analysis written to draw attention to a work already published. Commentaries are somewhat like “reviews” in that the author presents his or her analysis of a work and why it would be of interest to a specific audience. Usually 2,000-3,000 words.

An opinion piece is a short article that conveys the author’s viewpoint on a research study. It presents a personal review of, for example, the methods and analyses done in the study. Usually 500-1000 words.

  58. I was a Cindy supporter, voter, and participant in her campaign. I haven't been on here in quite a while, but I am very sad to see what's going on. Cindy had nothing to do with stirring up all of the controversy for Jeff, she was doing her own thing.

Initially, we all laughed off Jeff for running, there was no way he had a chance, so we thought. We waited for the first round of donations to come out, and prayed that Jeff would drop out after realizing that he can't raise any money. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case.

Jeff ended up coming out on top of everybody, including Tony. We could also sense him gaining momentum from this, and everybody on our side was in shock. This is when Susan Turney and Pam Slater Price made the call, "take Jeff down at all costs!" They went after Jeff with everything they have, and as I can see on the past few threads, they haven't stopped.

Rachel Graves was able to get an email from Tony that Jeff sent to Blakespear. We all worked from there. Pam Slater knows who own EU, so we used this to secretly attack Jeff as much as we can. Our goal, was to keep attacking and attacking and attacking, with the hopes that he would slip. It looks like he did slip, but that was way after the election.

Susan and Pam both knew Tony was going to win and didn't care. There was no way that they were going to allow a stupid surfer to get in between them and their desire for power. I think everybody knows that Cindy wasn't behind anything, she was encouraged to run for office the previous Summer.

I wish Susan and Pam's attacks on the Morrises would stop. Kim is a very nice person, and Jeff is a bit intense. That being said, they are good people who have contributed a lot to the community. I didn't think Jeff was Mayor material, but I don't hate him. He's a good guy but he is too much like Trump.

Susan and Pam went after the Morrises with all guns blazing. I feel this was fair during the election, but I never expected them to continue even until now. I know Susan and Pam are savoring the fact the Jeff has some family issues going on right now, but who cares? I am pretty sure his short lived political career is over.

    3. 2:20 I was part of Cindy’s team for awhile and this is exactly what I experienced. However I have to add that Vivian Vail was a huge part of this as well. Susan Turney followed by Vail then Price.

I didn’t see Price get that involved with the Morris thing, but Turney, Vail and Cremona were relentless as was Natalie Settoon and Rachel Graves. I know because we had a lot of discussions about this.

Election time is fair game, but after it should stop. I’ve spoken to Morris quite a few times since and I can tell you with absolutely certainty that they are not on EU anymore! That’s a fact!

  60. 2:20 Your story does not make any sense, since Pam/Susan were against a Tony win and were supporting a Cindy win! Many of the campaign issues originated from “someone” that knew about Jeff’s letter to Cb and his application for the Democratic Party support. Craig campion told them that he was the one that wrote and distributed the letter to their community not Cindy! The next door issue was shown to the Morrises confirming that Cindy was not an admin and not responsible for his comments deletions. He had both names of the admin to write or speak to and confirm who was responsible for deleting his comments. That is 4 down with the no-show option to the American Legion debate. Should she have shown up? I don’t know, but at that point she was just trying to not get into any arguments with Jeff and was focusing on her side of the street.

    Replies
    1. Sides? There's no "both" sides, there's just you. There's something wrong with you, and your psychotic behavior, your psychotic actions, to try to inflict harm for "no reason" whatsoever, is concerning.

You were never a target of anybody. You had a stupid thought that you were somehow a victim of an issue between two people - which you weren't, you sold yourself into believing the lies that you made up, you ran with those lies as if you had some justifiable reason, and you've tried to inflict nonstop harm for a year.

November 8th, has come and gone along time ago. It's time for you to realize that. You devised plans to "harm someone" based upon fabrication, bullying, and psychotic OCD. Think for one second, put the shoe on the other foot, and look at the "entire picture," should Colton Bower's mom continue her psychotic episode and continue harassing, Colton continue harassing, people who have a right to enjoy their community and life?

Nobody ever did anything to you. You instigated 100% of everything, so you don't have any right to pretend you're a victim. You have been the aggressor, slanderer, libeler, liar, and you've also committed perjury. You did all of this for what? Because you do NOT believe someone has a right to talk about what happened to them by a group of crazy women during an election?

Nobody did anything to you. Nobody did anything to me in my own household. On the other hand, you have committed some major atrocities on a family in a quest to cause maximum harm to them, their children, their relationship with people they know? WTF is wrong with you?

The school, CPS, and children who bully others, will be taken directly to the principle's office tomorrow. When you harm kids, like you've done to others and are doing to your own by encouraging them to fight other kids on your behalf, no stopping of the harassment at any point, calls for tough measures.

The election ended 4 months ago but your harassment, false accusations, fake TRO's, fake Civil Harassment filings, and pretending you are "in the middle" of someone's campaign "and" their personal family issues, gives rightful reasons for one to be concerned about their safety. Furthermore, it shows an insight in to the psychotic mind of a deeply disturbed individual who has already demonstrated they are a danger to others.

Maybe it's time to think about your children and what is best for them, rather than constantly harass other families to get your JOLLIES off. In other words, it's time for you to move on because both the schools and law enforcement are aware of your son's actions, but now it's time for them to realize that the "MOTHER" is behind everything.

Go be a mom and leave other families alone. If not, those other families will defend themselves and those families know EVERYBODY in town, especially families with lots of children, children who have lots of friends, and those children's friends who WILL be warned about a psychotic woman living in a trailer who can't stop her obsession over someone who did NOTHINING to her, someone she doesn't know, someone's kid she doesn't know.

It's time to stop your OCD, and focus on your life other than someone else's. Otherwise we'll see what happens in school with the proper authorities. They've already got about 3 warnings? That's enough to get the ball rolling for an investigation to find out what is wrong with you.

Are you beginning to get the point?
