9th Circuit strikes down Berkeley natural gas ban

In 2021 the Blakespear council banned natural gas in new construction.

The federal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals just ruled Berkeley’s similar ban illegal.

  1. And now Democrats—unable to get their way in court—will amass thousands of people bringing baseball bats, pepper spray, tasers, Molotov cocktails, illegal guns and ammunition, ladders, body armor, helmets, encrypted communications, zip tie handcuffs, and a gallows will violently attack police and storm a government building in an attempt to circumvent the court ruling and achieve their desired ends through violence.

    No they won’t.

    They won’t do that.

But who did all the physical damage and rioting throughout the country, destroying businesses, family homes, lives and billions of dollars in damages? BLM and Antifa. All in the name of a prison Felon thug named George Floyd who had a history of sever violence including punching his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach and molesting a little girl.

The Dems were even waving Antifa and BLM flags in support of this felon in Encinitas.

San Fran, Portland, Minneapolis, Seattle and so many other cities across the nation are still trying to recover from the Democrats rioting. Whole Foods and many other large companies have recently left San Francisco citing crime as the reason.

Nice job Dems! Biden currently has the lowest approval rating of any President and now we’re in a recession with inflation at the highest we’ve seen in 40 years. Nice job Biden!

    8. I was at the Encinitas rally. Brought my kids. Talked to them about the history of racism in policing. We also talked as a family about how there is no more patriotic act than publicly recognizing injustice and demanding we make progress toward a more perfect future.

We sang songs. We spoke the names of those who died unjustly from police violence. We told their stories and vowed not to let them be forgotten. We passed around flyers listing black owned businesses we can patronize to lift up a community. We felt the love and heard the support shouted from windows of passing cars.

It was peaceful and beautiful and positive, just like most of the protests that summer.

$400 Billion to address the Climate Change reduction plan and Biden’s $2 trillion American Rescue Plan, in particular contributed to the surge in inflation. Economists believe this contributed at least 5 percentage points to inflation.

When the legislation was passed in March 2021, the economy was well on the path to recovery from the pandemic, with the unemployment rate having dropped to 6 percent from a peak of nearly 15 percent. We were well on our way to recovery back to pre-pandemic levels. Handing out an additional $2 trillion started our inflation tailspin.

The $2 Trillion dollars that Biden handed out in the form of checks to American people during the Pandemic, better known as the “American Rescue Plan” resulted in a huge cash infusion.

This is the reason Real GDP expanded by 5.7 percent in 2021 and drifted over to 2022, while core goods inflation surged from 2 percent to more than 10 percent by year’s end.

When you give people free money to spend, GDP will always go up.

A recession is likely. And then slack in the labor market will stimulate new business startups, and those new businesses will be able to hire good people, setting off a wave of growth by next summer. By election time, you’ll have a hard time pedaling doom.

Wages aren’t keeping up with rising costs. Wages grew 5.2% but inflation grew 7.1%.

    13. So how did that create inflation in Europe?

      Delete
    14. 8:12, stupid question and it has nothing to with us, but I’ll answer it.

The reason is Europe's natural-gas crunch, the result of shortfalls in Russian imports that got worse after the invasion of Ukraine. That sent electricity prices soaring too, helping drive up costs in pretty much every corner of the economy -- with the result that inflation is now broader in Europe, as well as higher

      Delete
    15. 11:24, that’s interesting.

So if I was an energy supplier, and there was a shortage in Europe driving up prices, then I’d probably divert some of my product there, as I’d rather sell it for the inflated prices that come from a shortage. That decision would then cascade into shortages elsewhere, because I’ve diverted supply that was going to, say the United States, right?

And seeing as how energy is an input cost to the production and delivery of nearly every product, there would be wide-ranging inflationary pressures globally from a supply shock in Europe.

      Interesting.

So that explains why inflation is a global problem right now.

    7. 11:52 and didn’t Lorena Gonzalez tell Elon Musk, TSLA owner, to “go deck himself”? Didn’t Elon disapprove of AB5 and Lorena Gonzalez and take his company from California to Texas?
      Answer: Yes

    8. 1:39,

Electric engines are 95% efficient. Most gas engines put about 33% of the gasoline energy into propulsion. That’s why a gas car needs radiators and a complex cooling system to deal with the waste heat.

Even if 100% of electricity was produced from fossil fuels, EVs would still have lower emissions by a lot. Also, if you compare the emissions impact of electric transmission losses compared to the impact of trucking gas to gas stations in tankers, again electricity wins.

      Delete
    9. 3:05, let me put it another way since my indirect comment didn't work. Please include the manufacturing which requires electricity, charging stations fed by the grid, tires, bearings etc. Battery replacement, financial issue from hell.

      Delete
    10. What you are looking for is an all-inclusive analysis of the impact of a car—from design, to the mining of materials, to the manufacture of components and subsystems, to the final assembly, to the fueling, maintenance and operation of the vehicle for its useful life, on through to disposal and recycling.

This is called a lifecycle analysis.

As you might guess, the result depends on some variables. What’s the fuel mix being used to power the electric grid? Is the gasoline in the ICE vehicle being blended with ethanol? If so, at what percentage, and is the ethanol from corn, beets, or sugarcane? How efficient is the distribution system for electricity and liquid fuels (varies by country).

But once you consider all the variables, the answer comes out as a range. And that range says that the total lifecycle impact of an EV bought in 2021 is about 60-68% less for an EV. As electricity providers add more solar and wind to the grid mix, that number will get higher in the future.

    2. California is California because the best and brightest talent wants to live here. But that talent is expensive and only makes sense for starting and growing a business.

Once the business matures, the focus changes to reducing cost. That’s the phase where moving manufacturing to Texas for champ labor makes sense. But that’s not the job you want, because Texas is only a stopover on the path toward even cheaper labor.

Tesla is already building the next factory in Mexico.

And those talented high-paid workers in California are in high demand for the next wave of disruptive innovative companies.

    5. Dell, HP, IBM, Indeed, Oracle and about 1,800 other tech companies are now based in Texas.

    6. Dell was never an innovator. They competed on a race to the bottom on price. Making my point. When the focus turns from innovation to cutting costs, Texas makes sense.

You ever work in a company in cost cutting mode? It sucks.

AAPL has offices and headquarters all over the world, including Texas, as do most large cap tech companies. You don’t seriously think that all of Apples employees and innovators work in California do you? Most of Apples employees and most large tech companies have employees spread throughout the country and world.

    9. Bottom line there are a ton of tech companies spread all over the world. You don’t seriously believe that all tech innovations come from San Jose, California do you?

All large cap tech companies have headquarters all over the world. And don’t think that TSLA is going to just abandon its 26,000 acre facility in Austin, Texas for California.

TSLA might be moving its headquarters back to CA, might…. But they sure aren’t going to stop building there cars and employing in Austin.

    11. Silicon Valley is still Silicon Valley for a reason. It’s a whole ecosystem of one of the most elite universities on earth that draws the best young talent from around the world, cutting edge research institutions, design thinking and innovation, people who understand rapid iteration and disruption, private equity and Angel investors. It’s an entire ecosystem of innovation that isn’t easy to replicate.

It’s very expensive, but it generates massive investor value over and over again. As long as you are still innovating, you can afford to stay there.

But some markets become commoditized and have to chase cheaper labor to drive out cost.

But if you are in a place like Texas, and your sales pitch is cheaper labor, then you are screwed long term, because there are people in Mexico and India who will always beat your labor cost.

That’s why Tesla is already building the next step on that path in Mexico.

      Delete
    12. Think about how much revenue the state of California lost after Lorena Gonzalez’s stupid tweet and we’re still losing tax revenue, it’s not like TSLA will be back here tomorrow. It’s gonna take awhile.

      Delete
    13. 3:38 wrong! You simply pay for the best and brightest to work and live in Texas and keep innovating, it’s called recruiting. It’s happening everyday and everywhere!

      Delete
    14. You don’t get it.

Those workers create the next big innovator.

      It happens over and over.

California doesn’t need to hold every company forever. In fact, that would be a waste of the talent that incubates and develops future businesses.

      Delete
    15. 3:38 Silicon Valley is shrinking.

Silicon Valley's population is declining; the share of young people is also falling. Silicon Valley's population declined by 48,900 residents between mid-2020 and mid-2021, the highest figure ever recorded.

Companies are leaving for other Silicon Valley’s. It’s easy to recruit innovators, especially when you can pay higher salaries from tax savings. However, it’s damn near impossible to change a states income tax policies like California’s.

This is the reason California is losing companies. And the companies like AAPL who stay are building headquarters outside of California.

      Delete
    16. 3:51 you think the innovators for tech, the best and brightest are all coming from California. Wrong! They come from all over the world and attend Universities across the country. Silicon Valley is losing tech companies every day it’s lost thousand in the last several years.
